Spain goalkeeper David de Gea talks up his side's chances of winning the World Cup following their "really excellent" qualifying campaign.

David de Gea has admitted that he is targeting World Cup glory this summer to make the whole of Spain "really happy".

The Manchester United goalkeeper will be first choice for La Roja in Russia following yet another impressive campaign at club level.

De Gea, who kept 18 Premier League clean sheets with United, is excited for his first World Cup as Spain's number one after rising through the ranks over the past four years.

Ahead of the pre-tournament friendlies against Switzerland and Tunisia, the 27-year-old told MUTV: "We have come off the back of a really excellent qualification campaign, and now it's time for the best bit to get started.

"So now for the good bit, the World Cup tournament itself, and let's enjoy it and take things game by game and try and perform well and hopefully have a real go at it and maybe even win the World Cup.

"It's something really special, being able to pull on the Spanish national team shirt in a World Cup. I'm just so keen for it all to get underway, both the games themselves and all the emotion, and let's hope we can make the entire country really happy."

Spain begin their World Cup campaign with a mouth-watering clash against Portugal on June 15, before facing Iran and Morocco in their other group matches.
