Team News: David de Gea starts for Spain

David de Gea starts for Spain

Spain manager Vicente del Bosque has handed Manchester United's David de Gea a starting role for this afternoon's Euro 2016 opener against Czech Republic in Toulouse.

De Gea's place in the Spanish squad was thrown into doubt last week when he was reportedly implicated in a rape case, although he has since vehemently denied the allegations.

Reports that he would be sent home as a result of the story proved wide of the mark, and he has now been named in the starting XI ahead of Iker Casillas for today's match.

Del Bosque also hands a start to David Silva as he wins his 100th international cap, with the Manchester City man playing behind striker Alvaro Morata, who has overcome a thigh injury to feature.

Czech Republic, meanwhile, name Arsenal duo Tomas Rosicky and Petr Cech in their starting XI for the Group D clash.

Roman Hubnik replaces the suspended Marek Suchy at the heart of the defence, but there is no place for Borek Dockal after he failed to adequately recover from an ankle problem.

Spain: De Gea; Juanfran, Ramos, Pique, Alba; Busquets, Iniesta, Fábregas; Nolito, Silva, Morata Subs: Casillas, Azpilicueta, Bartra, Koke, Vazquez, Pedro, Bellerin, Thiago, San Jose, Bruno, Aduriz, Sergio Rico

Czech Republic: Cech; Kaderabek, Sivok, Hubnik, Limbersky; Darida, Plasil, Gebre-Selassie, Krejci, Rosicky; Necid Subs: Kadlec, Dockal, Pudil, Skoda, Kolar, Pavelka, Vaclik, Sural, Skalak, Lafata, Koubek
