Xavi: 'Ireland win will build confidence'

Spain midfielder Xavi has said that he and his teammates will take confidence from their 4-0 win against the Republic of Ireland at Euro 2012.

The defending champions, who were held to a 1-1 draw against the Italians to begin the tournament, took the lead on four minutes against the Irish when Fernando Torres found the back of the net for his first of the night.

"This match will help to build up the confidence in the team," he told AS.

"We depend on ourselves now, which is the most important thing. A win against Croatia will see us progress as the first-placed team in the group, but the draw could also be enough."

Spain meet Croatia in their final group game next week.
