Southampton boss Nigel Adkins looks to Gaston Ramirez for Premier League lift

Adkins hopeful of Ramirez "boost"

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins believes that the return of midfielder Gaston Ramirez could revive the Saints' dwindling season.

The former Championship side currently reside at the bottom of the league table after picking up just four points from nine games.

Summer signing Ramirez is yet to make an impact at St Mary's due to a month-long absence with a leg injury but the Uruguayan is expected to make an appearance against West Bromwich Albion tonight.

"A big plus is that Ramirez has trained well this week and we are looking for him to be included," said Adkins. "He's a smashing little man and a quality footballer. He doesn't know the language but he knows football. Gaston's given us a boost."

Ramirez joined the Saints from Bologna for a reported £12m.
