Bayer Leverkusen forward Son Heung-Min has been named the South Korean Footballer of the year for 2013 at an award ceremony in Seoul.

Son, who has impressed with seven goals in 14 games for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this season, won the award after a vote of more than 200 journalists and officials in Korea.

"It's a great honour for me," Son is quoted as saying by Bundesliga.com, although he was unable to collect the award in person with the resumption of the league season this weekend.

The 21-year-old, who has 22 caps for Korea, has played in Germany since 2010 when he joined Hamburger SV from FC Seoul.
