Shrewsbury Town looking to sign Kevin Foley on free contract

Micky Mellon confirms that Kevin Foley could become the latest free agent to join Shrewsbury Town, following the arrivals of Ian Black, Zak Whitbread and Anthony Gerrard.

Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has revealed that he is interested in signing former Wolverhampton Wanderers full-back Kevin Foley.

The 31-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Danish top-flight side Copenhagen during the summer.

Foley has since trained with the Shrews, while also being named as a triallist in a reserve game against Burton Albion last week.

Mellon has now confirmed that the club are working hard to sign the Luton Town academy product, with the first steps having already been taken to put a deal in place.

"We've spoken to him and we're keen to bring him in, so it's at that stage at the minute," the Shropshire Star quotes him as saying. "He's a great lad and he'll be training again here tomorrow and we'll see how it develops.

"I had a conversation with the chairman on Saturday night and I believe we're in a position now as a football club whereby if players come up of minimum League One standard, we've got to do everything we can to bring them in.

"When lads come into our recruitment pool like that, we must try really hard to sign them. He's played at international level, he's played in the Premier League. I know how good he is and I think that's the best way for us at the minute."

Ian Black, Zak Whitbread and Anthony Gerrard have all arrived at New Meadow on free contracts this term.
