Sheffield United net five to end Burnley's unbeaten run

Sheffield United have ended Burnley's 16-match unbeaten streak in style with a 5-2 victory over the Championship leaders on Saturday afternoon.

Having lost just once in 19 league matches this campaign, Vincent Kompany's side made the trip to Bramall Lane with the opportunity to move nine points clear of their third-placed hosts.

However, despite holding the advantage on two occasions, Burnley were outfought by the Blades, who netted four times in 26 second-half minutes.

There was an element of good fortune about Burnley's opener as Benson Manuel's shot was deflected into the net by Jack Robinson, preventing goalkeeper Wes Foderingham from performing what would have been a routine save.

Nevertheless, luck was against the visitors 13 minutes later as Sheffield United equalised from a corner which was wrongly given, Oli McBurnie heading back across goal for Iliman Ndiaye to convert from close range.

While Robinson was unfortunate to be at fault for the first goal, the Sheffield United defender could only blame himself for Manuel's second, being dispossessed and watching the winger surge clear to slide the ball past Foderingham.

Although Burnley were ahead at the break, they have dropped points from winning positions on several occasions this season, and their second-half showing in Yorkshire was a total capitulation.

McBurnie found the equaliser with a close-range header, and the turnaround was complete shortly after the hour mark as Robinson, of all players, finished off a scramble inside the penalty area by prodding home from near the goal line.

Sheffield United's fourth came through Anel Ahmedhodzic, who fired home from six yards after Burnley again failed to deal with a set piece, and the three points were confirmed with 16 minutes left as McBurnie scored into an empty net after goalkeeper Arijanet Muric's block from a George Baldock shot ricocheted into his path.

Burnley were fortunate not to concede for a sixth time in what proved to be Vincent Kompany's most humbling experience in the Burnley dugout, while Sheffield United now sit in second position, three points adrift of the frontrunners with a game in hand.
