Four charged after pre-season friendly 'disorder'

Four people have been charged after trouble at the pre-season friendly between Grimsby Town and Sheffield United left two police officers injured.

Glasses, bottles and other items were thrown at Saturday's match at Blundell Park, with Humberside Police reporting that one of the officers suffered a head injury and a suspected fractured ankle.

Six arrests were made on the day and four were charged with assault, affray and public order offences following the disorder, with two people released on bail.

Police added that CCTV footage was being checked, with further arrests expected, and that football banning orders may be imposed to prevent fans from attending future matches.
