Mark McGhee: Scotland can "create something special"

Assistant manager Mark McGhee says that Scotland can "create something special" by qualifying for Euro 2016.

Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee has said that the team can "create something special" by qualifying for Euro 2016.

The Tartan Army are currently third in Group D, level on points with Germany and Republic of Ireland and three points behind Poland.

They play Northern Ireland in a friendly on Wednesday before continuing their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign against Gibraltar on Sunday.

"I think we have the opportunity to create something special," McGhee told BBC Sport.

"That something special can only be qualifying. If we do then we can consider it to be a bit more special than it has been recently. I think if we go on and finish the campaign as strongly as we started then we have a chance of qualifying.

"We are happy with the talent we have at our disposal and it is demonstrated by the players we can name who aren't here. We are content that we have a talented squad that we have to make the best of and that is the challenge for us."

Scotland have failed to qualify for an international tournament since the 1998 World Cup in France.
