Christoph Metzelder tears groin muscle

Christoph Metzelder faces another spell on the treatment table after tearing his groin muscle in the DFB Pokal encounter with SV Sandhausen on Tuesday night.

Schalke 04 defender Christoph Metzelder has revealed that he tore a groin muscle in Tuesday night's DFB Pokal encounter with SV Sandhausen.

It was the German international's first game back from injury and he now faces another spell on the sidelines.

"I'm afraid I have a torn muscle in the groin area," said the 31-year-old after the game.

Metzelder recently revealed that he expects to leave Die Knappen at the end of the season.
