Andrey Arshavin: 'Russia have appointed Fabio Capello'

National team captain Andrey Arshavin has claimed that Fabio Capello has been appointed the new coach of Russia.

The 66-year-old has been in discussions with the Russian Football Association over the past two days with a view to succeeding Dick Advocaat.

While no official announcement has been made, 31-year-old Arsenal midfielder Arshavin has welcomed the Italian on his personal website.

"Russia's national coach has been appointed – he is Fabio Capello. We wish him success in his new job," wrote Arshavin.

Capello has been out of work since leaving the English national team in February of this year.
