Alan Stubbs sets playoffs target for Rotherham United

Newly-appointed Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs reveals that he wants the club to be challenging in the Championship playoff positions.

New Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs has revealed that he is aiming to make the side playoff contenders in the next few years.

The Millers confirmed the appointment of Stubbs and assistant John Doolan on three-year contracts yesterday after compensation terms were agreed with their former club Hibernian.

Speaking to the media for the first time today, Stubbs said that he had taken "a calculated risk" in moving to Rotherham but had been convinced by the club's aspiration to be challenging at the right end of the table.

"They fitted in with my ambition," he said. "I was impressed by what the chairman had to say, what his vision is for the club and the ambition.

"The club's had two seasons where they've stabilised in the Championship and we're looking to take the club forward. We want to be moving up the table and ultimately we want to be a club that is around the playoffs. That has to be the aim.

"I got a great opportunity at Hibernian, they've been fantastic with me, I really enjoyed my two years there. I'm glad I've been able to leave on the back of a successful end to the season but now it's a new chapter and one that's very exciting for me."

United's highest ever league position came in 1954-55, when they finished third in the old Second Division.
