Adrian Mutu has stated that he wants to perform well for new club Pune City to earn a place in the Romania squad for Euro 2016.
The 36-year-old striker, who has been banned twice for failed drug tests while playing for Fiorentina and Chelsea, will return to competitive action in the Indian Super League next month after spending a year on the sidelines.
Mutu, who played at the 2000 and 2008 European Championships, has said that Romania boss Anghel Iordanescu could end his two-year international exile and recall him for next summer's tournament in France if he finds form.
"The Romania coach has told me that if I continue playing football even after ISL then he will consider me for the European Championship next year," Mutu told Sport360.
"It's a huge motivation for me to keep going and I am taking it very seriously."
Mutu has scored 35 goals in 77 appearances for Romania.
