Frank Lampard 'being considered' as shock candidate for Serie A job

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is allegedly being considered for a potential route back into the dugout at a Serie A club.

Frank Lampard is reportedly being considered as a candidate for a managerial role in Serie A.

The Chelsea legend has been without a job since an unproductive caretaker stint in charge of Chelsea before the eventual arrival of Mauricio Pochettino in the summer of 2023.

Lampard's stock has decreased on the back of winning just one of 11 matches during that period and just 27.3% of his 44 games with Everton.

Nevertheless, the former midfielder still has positive achievements on his CV having reached a Championship playoff final with Derby County, earned a top-four Premier League finish with Chelsea and kept Everton in the top flight when they were under threat of relegation.

As it stands, the 46-year-old cannot afford to be too selective when it comes to his next role if he has genuine ambition to return to the dugout.

However, it appears that there is the possibility of the Englishman receiving an opportunity to manage one of European football's giants.

Lampard in contention for Serie A role?

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Lampard is one of the names being considered as a potential replacement for Roma boss Ivan Juric.

The Croatian was only appointed as Roma head coach in the middle of September after they made the decision to replace club legend Daniele De Rossi.

In 10 games, though, Juric has recorded just four wins and two draws, leaving Roma in the bottom half of the Serie A table.

That has led to speculation that higher-profile alternatives have emerged as an option to succeed the former Genoa and Torino boss.

Roma's owners, the Friedkin Group who have also been heavily linked with Everton, have allegedly been advised by people close to them at the Toffees to be open-minded to appointing Lampard.

Who else could be considered?

The report suggests that Paulo Sousa, Roberto Mancini and Claudio Ranieri are all being considered as potential candidates.

Sousa has enjoyed a storied managerial career that has taken him all around the globe, his current role coming at Shabab Al Ahli Club in the UAE where he has won 11 of his 14 matches in charge.

Mancini had been in charge of Saudi Arabia until last month before leaving his role after winning just eight of his 20 matches.

Ranieri retired from management when departing Cagliari in May, yet it appears that Roma may consider trying to tempt the 73-year-old back into the dugout.
