Rudi Garcia proud of "pyrrhic" Roma victory

Garcia proud of "pyrrhic" victory

Roma boss Rudi Garcia has insisted that their record-equalling 2-0 win over Napoli tonight has come at a heavy cost.

The Giallorossi become only the fourth side in Serie A history to win their opening eight games of the season in succession, thanks to a brace from Miralem Pjanic.

Francesco Totti and Gervinho both suffered injuries during a hard-fought clash, with Garcia admitting that the victory was somewhat tainted as a result, described the win as "pyrrhic".

He told Sky Sport Italia: "I am happy with the win, but it was a pyrrhic victory, as we lost Totti and Gervinho. They are muscular problems and will require further tests.

"Nonetheless, I am happy because we won and in a tough game like this you need to take every chance on set plays.

"Tonight Totti's Roma matched Michel Platini's Juventus under the gaze of Diego Maradona. I am very proud to have contributed to that."

Tonight's win takes Roma five points clear at the top of Serie A, with 22 goals scored and just conceded in eight games.
