Patrick Vieira backs Roma for Europa League triumph

World Cup winner Patrick Vieira believes that Roma will win the Europa League this season.

Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has said that Roma are his favourites to win this season's Europa League.

The Giallorossi are in a good position to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament, having earned a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their last-16 tie at Fiorentina.

"I think that Roma will win the Europa League this season," Forza Italian Football‎ quoted Vieira as saying.

"They are a good side with a good coach. The Europa League is a tough tournament, there are many sides who could win some of which have come down from the Champions League.

"Everyone wants to win it, so the expectations from the fans are high."

The second leg of Roma's tie with Fiorentina will take place at the Stadio Olimpico next Thursday.
