Seamus Coleman looking forward to Euro 2016

Seamus Coleman looking forward to Euro 2016

Republic of Ireland defender Seamus Coleman has admitted that he cannot wait to be part of the team at Euro 2016.

Martin O'Neill's side secured qualification for next year's tournament in France as they beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 in the second leg of their playoff at the Aviva Stadium on Monday evening.

Coleman was overlooked in favour of Sean St Ledger for the Irish squad for Euro 2012, but the Everton right-back has said that he is now looking forward to his first experience of a major tournament.

"You grow up wanting to be in these tournaments and now I can't wait," he told the Liverpool Echo. "From day one, we've all believed we can get there. We have had a few difficult moments along the way but what a feeling now – I haven't experienced anything like that playing for my country.

"In the changing room, when the manager spoke to us, it was an amazing feeling. When you are long gone and retired, these are the moments that you will remember.

"I was so disappointed to miss out on the last one, although I have no complaints about not being there. Hopefully I will be in the 23 when we go [to Euro 2016]. It's an amazing feeling."

The draw for the finals takes place on December 12.
