Richard Keogh: 'I should have scored'

Richard Keogh: 'I should have scored'

Republic of Ireland defender Richard Keogh has admitted that he should have scored late on in Sunday's 2-1 Euro 2016 qualifying defeat in Poland.

The Derby County man missed a free header with 10 minutes remaining in what was Ireland's best chance since Robert Lewandowski headed home the winner before the break.

Drawing 2-2 would have seen Martin O'Neill's side pip their Polish counterparts to automatic qualification from Group D, with the Irish now consigned to a two-legged playoff next month.

"It's obviously disappointing," he told RTE Sport. "I thought the second half we played very well. We've got to make sure come November, we'll be ready.

"I tried to head it down towards the goal, but he's made a decent save. I probably should've scored."

Germany won the group by a point ahead of Poland, who finished three clear of third-placed Ireland.
