Martin O'Neill: 'Jonathan Walters brings strength of character'

Republic of Ireland coach Martin O'Neill states that Stoke City frontman Jonathan Walters brings strength of character to his country's game.

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill has praised the abilities of frontman Jonathan Walters ahead of the second leg of the country's Euro 2016 playoff clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday.

The Republic produced a 1-1 draw away in Zenica in order to give O'Neill's men a slight advantage with an away goal, while the team could also welcome back the frontline presence of Walters, who is looking to shake off an injury in time for the return game.

"We might lack a few things in our side, but a bit of strength of character I think is there and the likes of Jon Walters epitomises that," said O'Neill, according to The Guardian.

"Jon has been terrific in the campaign. He epitomises the spirit, never say die, and he's come up with big goals for us as well.

"He's been pretty exceptional throughout the tournament and I couldn't speak more highly of him."

Ireland were also handed another fitness boost recently, as both John O'Shea and Shane Long took part in training ahead of the crunch game.
