Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill hails the display of Robbie Keane after the forward notched two goals in his side's win over Gibraltar.

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill has praised the performance of Robbie Keane in his side's 4-0 win over Gibraltar.

The Los Angeles Galaxy forward notched a brace in the victory to move just one goal behind Gerd Muller in the all-time list of highest international goalscorers, putting him in 14th place overall.

"It was a great effort by him tonight," O'Neill told Sky Sports News. "I didn't realise he's just one behind the great Gerd Mulller. That's not bad."

Ireland are third in Group D following their victory, two points behind second-placed Poland.
