O'Neill "disappointed" with Scotland defeat

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill has revealed that he was "disappointed" with his side's defeat to Scotland in their Euro 2016 qualifier.

Gordon Strachan's men secured a 1-0 victory in the Group D clash as Shaun Maloney scored the only goal of the game in the 76th minute to condemn O'Neill's side to their first defeat in their qualifying campaign.

"I'm naturally disappointed," O'Neill told Sky Sports News. "For the away side we were in reasonable control of the game, we didn't give away too many chances and they scored form a corner.

"It was a really tough game. A derby game as it was considered. It was frenetic, stop start in many aspects and overall I didn't think that we would lose the game.

"To lose a game on a set-piece is disappointing. We didn't react quickly enough and that was suicidal."

Ireland are fourth in Group D and level on points with Scotland following the defeat.
