Shay Given hit with knee injury

Given suffers injury scare

Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given suffered a minor knee injury during training ahead of the national side's Euro 2012 campaign.

The blow is not believed to be serious but the Football Association of Ireland have confirmed that the 36-year-old will miss a number of training sessions.

A spokesman from the governing body said: "Shay Given picked up a minor knee injury in training. After undergoing a scan, it was concluded that Shay should sit out training for the next 2-3 days for precautionary measures."

The Republic are due to play a friendly against Bosnia at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.
