Rennes appoint Montanier

French club Rennes have appointed Philippe Montanier as their coach for next season.

The Ligue 1 outfit made the official announcement on Tuesday following Real Sociedad's revelation that the Frenchman has declined signing an extension to his contract that runs out this summer.

"Philippe Montanier, the current coach of Real Sociedad, accompanied by his deputy Michel Troin, will succeed Frederic Antonetti as coach of Stade Rennais," reads an official statement from the club. "They will join the group from Monday July 1."

Montanier was appointed the Sociedad coach in 2011.
