Earthquakes edge past Salt Lake
A brace from Steven Lenhart sees San Jose Earthquakes defeat Real Salt Lake 2-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium in the MLS.

San Jose Earthquakes have walked away from Rio Tinto Stadium with all three points thanks to a 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake.

A brace from Steven Lenhart helped Mark Watson's men to maintain their push for a playoff spot in the MLS Western Conference.

After 30 games played, the Earthquakes are three points behind Los Angeles Galaxy, although the Californian team can re-establish their advantage by beating Seattle Sounders later on.

All the goals in Utah came in a frantic three-minute spell, which started when Lenhart scored his first of the evening with a header from Cordell Cato's cross in the 18th minute.

However, that lead last just seconds, as Javier Morales slammed home from close range following Kyle Beckerman's corner kick.

Another Lenhart header restored the hosts' lead in the 21st minute, with Shea Salinas being the provider this time.

Jon Busch was called into action to deny Olmes Garcia from dragging Salt Lake level once more, and that was ultimately enough to see the Earthquakes home.
