How Real Madrid could line up if Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo returns

Sports Mole looks at how Real Madrid could line up with Cristiano Ronaldo in their side next season should he join from Juventus.

Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing up a shock reunion with Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portugal international won 15 trophies during his nine years at the Bernabeu, including an unprecedented three Champions League titles in a row.

Ronaldo joined Juve in a £100m deal three years ago and has scored 95 goals during his 123 appearances for the Italian giants.

However, speculation has grown in recent weeks that he may move on this summer on the back of a terrible campaign for the Bianconeri.

Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane did little to play down talk of a return to the Bernabeu last week when admitting that the rumours "may be true".

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Los Blancos could line up next season if Ronaldo rejoins.

POSSIBLE RMIXI W/RON

Ronaldo has seven goals in his last seven appearances for Juve, the majority of those alongside either Alvaro Morata or Dejan Kulusevski in what is effectively a 4-4-2.

The split striker system has also worked well for Zidane in recent weeks, with Karim Benzema partnered by Vinicius Junior up top in Madrid's last three matches.

Zidane has also trialled a five-man defence to good success, so Ronaldo would slot in fairly seamlessly in a 3-5-2 type formation alongside Benzema.

Madrid's midfield three are nailed on these days, with Casemiro anchoring and Toni Kroos and Luka Modric either side, though that may need freshening up in the summer.

Defence is another area that may look slightly different come next season, with long-serving skipper Sergio Ramos potentially on his way out and David Alaba likely to come in.

Dani Carvajal will soon return from an injury layoff and will slot in at right wing-back, while Ferland Mendy is the most likely starter on the left.

Ultimately, though, this side is centred around the front two, with the task of everyone else in the team to get the most out of the prolific pair.
