Gabi: 'Barcelona still in the race'

Atletico Madrid midfielder Gabi says that Barcelona are still firmly in the La Liga title race this season.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Gabi has insisted that Barcelona are still in the La Liga title race this season.

Atletico currently top the table, three points clear of Barcelona and five above Real Madrid, who play their game in hand against Real Valladolid this evening.

Barca could be third by the end of the night, but Gabi has said that the Catalan outfit are still firmly in the race.

"We're in a privileged position of being able to depend entirely on ourselves. We'll be trying to win on Sunday against Malaga and then close the season at Barcelona, who will also be doing everything they can to win their last two games," Gabi told reporters at a press conference.

"The Barca players have demonstrated their professionalism and they're still candidates for La Liga right now, even given where we are and have the lead.

"The only way for us to be champions, as far as we're concerned, is to win our game on Sunday and get at least a point at Barcelona."

Atletico have not won the league in close to 20 years.
