Real Madrid to rest stars for Copa del Rey clash

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti reveals that Cristiano Ronaldo will be one of five star names rested for their Copa del Rey tie with third-tier Cornella on Wednesday.

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he will rest several of his star names for Real Madrid's Copa del Rey match with Cornella on Wednesday evening.

Ballon d'Or favourite Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric will all be rested for the away tie against the third-tier outfit.

Gareth Bale will also sit out as he continues to recover from a "small injury", but Ancelotti has insisted that he is taking the competition seriously.

"The Copa del Rey has given us a lot of success," Ancelotti he told reporters. "We have to play a serious game and give minutes to some players."

Keylor Navas, Raphael Varane and Asier Illarramendi are expected to start for the holders, who beat Barcelona in last year's final courtesy of a late solo goal from Bale.
