Jose Mourinho says that Real Madrid gave all they could but left it too late to make a comeback in the Champions League semi-final.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that his side gave everything after being dumped out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage on Tuesday.

The La Liga champions beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu but were knocked out of the competition on aggregate having lost 4-1 in Germany last week.

The Portuguese boss believes that his players left it too late to stage a miraculous comeback.

"My players have given everything," Mourinho told Sky Sports News. "If we had scored earlier, we would have had a chance.

"The Bernabeu has been fantastic, the fans believed until the end but we did not make it."

Mourinho has also defended his record in the competition.
