Didier Deschamps "proud" of Marseille achievement

Didier Deschamps says that his team have "surpassed their objective" by qualifying for the Champions League quarter-final.

Marseille manager Didier Deschamps has said that his team have "surpassed their objective" by qualifying for the Champions League quarter-final.

A 2-1 victory was not good enough Inter Milan following Brandao's late strike, which secured Marseille's progress by virtue of the away goal rule.

"I'm very happy, especially as we qualified at the expense of a high-quality side," said the 43-year-old. "We knew that we could go and secure qualification. Seeing all our fans here jumping for joy, well it's a source of huge pride to me.

"The objective was to reach the last 16 and we've surpassed that. We'll see what the draw throws up. We're among the top eight clubs now and we have to savour it.

"There are two big favourites: Real Madrid and Barcelona. Behind them there's Bayern Munich and AC Milan, with all their experience."

Deschamps steered Monaco to the Champions League final in 2003, when they were beaten by Jose Mourinho's Porto.
