English match official Mark Clattenburg chosen to referee Champions League final

Clattenburg to referee Champions League final

English match official Mark Clattenburg has been selected to referee the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in Milan on May 28.

The 41-year-old, who has been an international referee since 2007, has taken charge of two Europa League games and six Champions League matches this season.

One of the European fixtures was the semi-final first leg between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, which ended in a 1-0 triumph for the Spanish club at the Vicente Calderon.

Clattenburg will oversee Atletico again this season as he has been selected to referee the Champions League showpiece between Diego Simeone's side and their local rivals Real Madrid, coached by Zinedine Zidane.

The County Durham-born referee, who will officiate the FA Cup final at Wembley on May 21, will be joined by assistants Simon Beck and Jake Collin.

The final will be held at San Siro.
