Report: Sunderland keeping tabs on Rangers full-back James Tavernier

Sunderland have expressed an interest in Rangers defender James Tavernier, according to a report.

The 26-year-old, who has made 25 appearances this season and scored four goals, has 18 months left on his Gers contract.

According to the Daily Mail, the former Wigan Athletic right-back is open to a return to England after a two-year stint north of the border.

The report goes on to suggest that Rangers are willing to sell due to financial worries, and that Reading are also interested in the player.

In addition, Black Cats manager Chris Coleman is reportedly keen to bolster his defensive options and also wants a full-back who is comfortable going forward.

Tavernier's younger brother, 18-year-old Marcus, is currently plying his trade at Middlesbrough.
