Rangers confirm Kenny McDowall has left post as interim manager

Rangers confirm interim manager Kenny McDowall has left the club following reports that Stuart McCall is due to take over.

Rangers have confirmed that interim manager Kenny McDowall has left the club following widespread reports that Stuart McCall is on the verge of taking charge.

Changes within the coaching department are due to be made after Dave King and his consortium secured control of the club after receiving an 85% vote in last Friday's EGM.

Today, the new board announced via the club's official website that McDowall, who has been at the Rangers since 2007, will relinquish his position at the outfit.

"It was an honour and privilege to work for Rangers Football Club and I will leave with so many positive memories," McDowall told the club's official website. "I have worked with so many talented people since I joined and I will forever be in Walter Smith's debt for bringing me to Rangers.

"I was delighted to play a part in the club's history and I wish the supporters and new management team all the very best."

Interim chairman Paul Murray added: "Everyone at Rangers Football Club thanks Kenny for his contribution and we will never forget the part he played in our success since he joined under Walter Smith in 2007.

"He is a man of integrity and honour and gave everything during his time at the club. Kenny worked under extremely challenging circumstances in recent months but he always gave everything he could to try to secure results for the football club. He will always be welcome."

McDowall, who was carrying out his 12-month notice period, worked alongside Smith and former manager Ally McCoist during his spell at Rangers.
