The SPFL and Scottish FA confirm that professional football in Scotland will resume at the weekend.

The SPFL and Scottish FA have confirmed that professional football in Scotland will resume at the weekend following the postponement of the latest set of fixtures.

As a mark of respect for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the latest round of matches were called off.

There had been some doubt over this weekend's matches, but it has now been confirmed that Scottish league football will resume as planned.

The statement said that all matches would be "subject to Police Scotland resourcing", suggesting that some games could still potentially be postponed depending on the logistics.

"Following confirmation of the postponement of all fixtures in the professional game across Scotland last weekend as a mark of respect for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we can confirm the intention for the professional game to resume as normal," read a statement from the SPFL.

"Fixtures will go ahead, subject to Police Scotland resourcing, with the caveat that any fixtures under the professional banner be rescheduled if they fall on Monday September 19, the day of Her Majesty's funeral.

"This week, as a mark of respect and in keeping with the period of National Mourning, home clubs may wish to hold a period of silence and/or play the National Anthem just ahead of kick-off, and players may wish to wear black armbands.

"We thank clubs and league organisations for the mark of respect shown at the weekend and for their efforts in resuming the professional game fixture schedule."

Rangers have seen their Champions League contest with Napoli, which had been scheduled to take place on Tuesday, put back 24 hours until Wednesday night.

A statement on the Scottish club's official website said that "severe limitations on policing resources and organisational challenges" meant that it would not have been possible to play on the original date.

"Rangers can today confirm the upcoming UEFA Champions League match with SSC Napoli at Ibrox has been rescheduled for Wednesday, 14 September at 8pm," read the statement.

"This is due to the severe limitations on policing resources and organisational challenges related to the ongoing events surrounding the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"Rangers, of course, recognise this switch in date will inconvenience a number of our loyal supporters, and refunds will be available to those unable to attend the match.

"Additionally, no away supporters will be present at the match, allowing the club to make additional tickets available to MyGers members as a priority.

"UEFA have also confirmed that as a matter of sporting integrity, no Rangers fans will be permitted to attend the return fixture in Naples. The club can only apologise for any inconvenience caused by the most unique and sad circumstances which are beyond our control."

There is still doubt surrounding this weekend's Premier League games in England, though, with the Queen's state funeral to be held on September 19.
