St Johnstone into Scottish Cup semi-finals

St Johnstone prove too much for Raith Rovers as early goals in each half help them on their way to the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

St Johnstone have progressed to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup with a 3-1 win at Raith Rovers.

The Scottish Premiership side were too much for Rovers, who fought back after an early Gary McDonald goal but ultimately fell short.

It took the visitors just four minutes to open the scoring through McDonald, who latched onto a long ball and fired past the goalkeeper at the near post.

Rovers then improved and, after a couple of half-chances, they equalised in stunning fashion. Joe Cardle picked the ball up on the wing and burst inside before unleashing an unstoppable strike from 30 yards out which went in off the post.

St Johnstone produced an equally quick start to the second half, scoring again after just four minutes. This time it was Nigel Hasselbaink, who cut in from the left, beating three men before poking the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

The visitors then wasted several chances through James Dunne and Stevie May before finally making the game safe 11 minutes from time when Steven Anderson reacted quickest from a corner to steer the ball in at the near post.
