Queens Park Rangers' Joey Barton jets off to Marseille to begin talks

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton is due to fly to France to begin talks over a transfer to Marseille.

The 29-year-old's proposed move away from Loftus Road was in doubt after the former Newcastle United midfielder claimed that his desired switch to Ligue 1 was off the table.

Despite the initial collapse, it now appears that Barton has been given the green light to speak to the French club after he posted a photo on Twitter of a private jet with the caption "En route to Marseille..."

Barton later added: "Off to Marseille. It's on. It's off. It's back on again. I am still skeptical...?"

It is understood that the controversial player will spend a season at Marseille on loan.
