Queens Park Rangers go top of the Championship

Queens Park Rangers win at Bolton Wanderers thanks to a single Andrew Johnson goal just after half time.

Queens Park Rangers are top of the Championship after a 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium.

A single Andrew Johnson goal was enough to see the away side take all three points, with their promotion rivals yet to play this weekend.

Despite a promising start from QPR, it was the hosts who created the best chance of the first half. Jermaine Beckford collected a loose ball and outpaced Richard Dunne with ease, but dragged his shot wide from just inside the penalty area.

Not long after that, Wanderers threatened again, but Robert Green was on hand to tip Medo's long-range effort onto the post.

After the break the visitors increased their tempo and it paid off after 10 minutes. Clint Hill got forward from left-back and played a clever one-two with Charlie Austin before firing towards the back post, where Johnson was on hand to tap in.

Bolton made several attacking changes shortly after that, but neither side was able to create and real goalscoring chances.

That was until 10 minutes from the end, when Rob Hall found fellow substitute Craig Davies inside the box, but his effort was well-saved by Green.

The QPR defence held firm until the end to gain their second consecutive 1-0 victory.
