Mark Hughes says that QPR's second-half performance was "encouraging".

Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes has said that he is "encouraged" by his team's second-half performance against Manchester City.

The R's succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, but the Welshman believes that there are still some positives to take from the game.

"I was really encouraged by what we produced in the second half," said Hughes. "You could see we were trying to get the ball down and we've got good players.

"Once we've had a number of games together and once we've had more experience of playing with each other as a team, there's no doubt we'll get better.

"All in all there are a lot of positives. We had a number of chances, but unfortunately from our point of view, they fell to the wrong guy in Ryan Nelsen. On another day, they might have fallen to one of our strikers, but all in all, we're moving in the right direction."

QPR welcome Chelsea to Loftus Road for their next Premier League encounter.
