Football Association: 'Joey Barton ban should apply at Marseille'

The Football Association has said that it will ensure Joey Barton's 12-match ban carries over to French football should he secure a switch to Marseille.

Barton has been linked with a move to the Ligue 1 side in recent weeks, but the sports governing body in Britain is determined to see him complete his suspension.

The controversial Queens Park Rangers star was hit with disciplinary action after being red-carded for violent conduct on the final day of last season.

He served the first game of his ban during QPR's 5-0 opening-day defeat at the hands of Swansea City.

The Sun claims that the English FA will reach out to the French Football Federation for a solution should Barton complete a move to Marseille.
