Championship side Portsmouth's financial problems force the club to make 30 staff members redundant.

Championship side Portsmouth have been forced to make 30 staff members redundant this evening.

Among those to lose their jobs were chief executive David Lampitt and two board members.

None of the club's players have been made redundant, although it is believed that they are being asked to defer their wages.

Administrator Trevor Birch has revealed that the job cuts are "essential" if the club is to survive.

"Additionally, we are asking certain employees to defer wages on an ongoing basis and are asking several members of staff to move from a full-time to a part-time role," Birch said.

"These measures are painful for everyone involved with the club, but they are essential for Portsmouth's survival, which is our main objective."

Pompey entered administration last Friday.
