Fernando Santos expecting "50-50" Poland quarter-final

Santos expecting "50-50" Poland clash

Portugal manager Fernando Santos has admitted that he is expecting a close contest when his side take on Poland in their Euro 2016 quarter-final on Thursday.

Portugal are yet to win a match in normal time at this summer's tournament, drawing all three of their group games before edging past Croatia in the last 16 courtesy of a 117th-minute winner from Ricardo Quaresma.

All four of Poland's matches have been tight too, though, and Santos is anticipating a "50-50" tussle at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille.

"Poland have been growing and they are a very strong team," he told reporters.

"Tomorrow will be a game between two very strong teams with very good players, both with the same goal - to move on, to be in the semi-finals. And my counterpart believes Poland will go through. But I believe we will go through.

"I think there are no favourites in this match. We are facing great opponents with great quality and I think this is a strictly 50-50 game. But I believe we are going to win."

The winners of Thursday's quarter-final will take on either Wales or Belgium in the last four.
