Barry Fry returns to Peterborough role after serving betting ban

Fry resigned on February 1 after being given a suspension by the FA.

Barry Fry has returned to his role as Peterborough director of football after a suspension for betting offences.

Fry had resigned from his role on February 1, the day after the Football Association gave him a four-month ban – three months of which were suspended – and fined him £35,000 for breaching FA Rule E8.

But a brief club statement on Monday read: "Peterborough United Football Club are delighted to announce Barry Fry is back on the board of directors at the club following the conclusion of an FA suspension and will resume his role as director of football."

Fry's suspension came after he was found to have placed bets on striker Jack Marriott finishing as League One's top scorer last season and Posh to gain promotion.

Fry, 73, told the FA disciplinary hearing the bets were not for personal gain but were to cover bonus payments for which the club was liable. The £500 each-way bet he placed on Marriott did indeed cover the striker's £25,000 bonus.
