Jota secures late point for Brentford

Jota scores a late equaliser for Brentford as the Championship playoff hopefuls come from 2-0 behind to secure a point against Nottingham Forest.

Brentford came from two goals behind to secure a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Nottingham Forest on Monday afternoon.

Despite failing to record all three points, Brentford remain in the top six following Ipswich Town's defeat at Huddersfield Town. Forest, meanwhile, remain ninth.

James Tarkowski had Brentford's and indeed the game's first real chance of the match after 10 minutes, but his header was straight at on-loan Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Brentford had another golden chance after 15 minutes, but Andre Gray was twice denied by David Vaughan, who threw his body on the line.

Forest then came close through Jack Hobbs, whose header looked to be angling into the top corner, but David Button was on hand to make the save.

The play continued to flow from end to end as Alan Judge tested Darlow with a smart volley just before the 30-minute mark. Darlow was again called into action late in the half to deny Gray, before Jake Bidwell went close.

Forest had the best chance of the first period in stoppage time when Michail Antonio delivered a low cross towards Tyler Walker, but the substitute just could not make contact.

Brentford came close to registering early in the second period when Alex Pritchard delivered an excellent cross towards Gray, but the striker could not make contact.

Against the run of play, it was the visitors that took the lead just past the hour mark when Walker collected a long clearance from Darlow before firing one into the bottom corner.

Brentford came close to levelling after 65 minutes when Pritchard curled one towards the far corner, but it just missed the post during what was an end-to-end period of the game at Griffin Park.

Brentford continued to press in the latter stages, with Darlow again producing a strong save to deny Jota. It was the visitors that scored a crucial second after 78 minutes, however, with on-loan Chelsea defender Todd Kane converting at the far post following a swift counter attack.

The hosts had a lifeline after 81 minutes when Gray turned outside the box before finding the bottom corner.

Forest looked to have done enough to secure all three points as the match entered the fifth minute of stoppage time, but Jota converted in the final moments to secure a point for the playoff hopefuls.
