Nottingham Forest manager: Nuno Espirito Santo successor to be 'confirmed today', likely contract length suggested

Nuno's Nottingham Forest successor to be 'confirmed today', likely contract length suggested

Nottingham Forest will allegedly waste no time in announcing the successor to Nuno Espirito Santo with confirmation expected at some point on Tuesday.

In recent weeks, the breakdown of the relationship between head coach Nuno and owner Evangelos Marinakis has been well-documented.

Reports have since added that the Portuguese and new sporting director Edu Gaspar have disagreed over several transfers, subsequently resulting in their being an inevitability over Nuno being sacked, as was confirmed late on Monday night.

A wide array of candidates were already known and several more were added to that potential list in the hours after Nuno had departed the City Ground.

However, as per John Percy of The Telegraph, Marinakis has already made his decision on a replacement and it will be announced in due course

Forest decide on Postecoglou appointment

The report claims that Forest will be appointing former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach.

Postecoglou has been out of work since June, Spurs deciding to part ways with the Greek-Australian in the aftermath of him delivering the club a Europa League trophy.

Losing 39 of his 101 matches in charge of the North London outfit ultimately counted against the 60-year-old, but he is in line to be handed another opportunity in the Premier League.

Percy says that Postecoglou - who is said to have always been the number-one target of Marinakis - will likely sign a contract until the end of 2026-27.

Should Postecoglou be confirmed as Nuno's successor, his first game will be a trip to Spurs' fierce rivals Arsenal on Saturday.

An appointment that will divide opinion

While Forest will likely laud Postecoglou's Europa League triumph at a time when they are one of the favourites to win this season's competition, that is not going to instantaneously convince Forest's fans.

The Tricky Trees' fanbase would have preferred for Nuno to stay on the back of guiding Forest to European football against the odds for the first time in three decades.

There will also be question marks over whether Postecoglou suits Forest from a style-of-play standpoint, his traditional high line largely opposite to the tactics that Nuno has deployed.

Furthermore, it is questionable whether Forest's defensive contingent will be able to adapt to that style of play, perhaps forcing the often-stubborn Postecoglou to consider tinkering with his philosophy.
