Paul Lambert praises Aston Villa performance

Lambert praises Villa performance

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has spoken of his delight at tonight's 4-1 victory over Norwich City in the quarter-final of the Capital One Cup.

The Midlands outfit were rampant in coming back behind at Carrow Road, as goals from Brett Holman and Christian Benteke, and a brace from Andreas Weimann, saw them through to the semi-final.

Lambert, returning to East Anglia for the first time since leaving in the summer, praised his new team's performance, believing that they were long overdue a crucial victory.

"I thought we were excellent for the whole game," Sky Sports News quotes Lambert as saying. "We have been playing like that since the Sunderland game, but I am delighted, I really am."

The five-time winners now face a two-legged tie with Bradford City for a place in the final, but the Scot refused to lose focus on the task ahead.

"I have never been to Wembley, although I have been to watch a game," he added. "But it's not anything I have thought about, we have still got a couple of games to go.

"However, it gives the club something to look forward. The fans deserve a pick up as well."

Villa last won the trophy back in 1996.
