Paul Lambert hails influence of Martin O'Neill

Lambert: 'O'Neill is a massive influence'

Norwich City boss Paul Lambert has cited Martin O'Neill as a "major part" of his career as a manager.

Lambert worked under the Northern Irishman as captain of Celtic in a highly successful period for the Scottish club.

The 42-year-old's management style has been compared to his former manager's, with the Scot leading Wycombe Wanderers and Norwich like O'Neill. However, despite the respect he has for the Sunderland boss, Lambert says that he still wants to take three points off him tonight.

"My five years at Celtic under him was a major part of my career and you learn a lot," Lambert said.

"He is brilliant at getting the best out of people, playing with confidence. I loved playing under him. It was terrific. Whenever I needed advice, I knew I could pick up the phone to him.

"I have to try to win for Norwich and he has to try to win for Sunderland, but it will be strange because of the relationship I have got with him."

Lambert took over as manager at Carrow Road in 2009.
