Former Derby County defender Josh Lelan joins Northampton Town

Northampton Town sign former Derby County defender Josh Lelan on a 12-month contract.

Northampton Town have confirmed the signing of former Derby County defender Josh Lelan.

The 20-year-old joins the League Two club on a 12-month deal after being released by the Rams.

Lelan has previously enjoyed loan spells with Gateshead and Swindon Town.

"Josh is a right-back who is mobile and athletic and he can fill in other positions as well," manager Chris Wilder told Northampton's official website.

"He has a good pedigree, he has had a good grounding with Derby and he has had loan spells at clubs who play a good footballing style. He was close to Derby's first team, but the change of management pushed him down the pecking order and he is keen to try and push his way into first-team football."

Lelan made five appearances for Swindon while on loan at the County Ground during the 2014-15 campaign.
