Aaron O'Connor 'closing in' on Newport County return

Newport County's Aaron O'Connor, who has been battling injury problems all season, is edging closer to a return to first-team football.

Newport County's Aaron O'Connor is edging closer to a return to first-team football.

The striker, who hit 20 goals last season as the Exiles won promotion to League Two, has been out with groin problems all season.

However, the South Wales Argus reports that he took part in a warm-up at Morecambe on Tuesday.

Newport boss Justin Edinburgh said: "We are being very, very careful with Azza, because we'd hate to see him break down again.

"But Azza is travelling with the squad now. Hopefully he will return in the coming days and will be available for selection, because I think that would give everyone a massive lift."

Newport play Exeter City on Sunday.
