Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirms interest in Newcastle job

The agent of Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirms his client's interest in succeeding Rafael Benitez as manager of Newcastle United.

The agent of Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that the former Feyenoord manager would be interested in taking over at Newcastle United.

Earlier this week the Magpies announced that Rafael Benitez's three-year stint in charge on Tyneside will come to an end after talks over a new deal broke down.

The club are now drawing up a shortlist of possible replacements and Van Bronckhorst, who won the Eredivisie title and two Dutch Cups during his four years in charge at Feyenoord, is said to be one of the main contenders.

"I think the rumours have come a little bit early and no-one from the club has spoken to Gio. But I think every coach in the world would be interested in working in the Premier League," Van Bronckhort's agent Guido Albers told The Chronicle.

"And what we would say if a club like Newcastle has an opportunity to work for them then of course he would be interested in doing that. It is an amazing club with an amazing fanbase but it's up to them who they decide to go for.

"Giovanni left Feyenoord, he was competing on a limited budget but won the Eredivisie against two clubs in Ajax and PSV who have greater resources. He had a great relationship with the fans, the players, the media and the city and he's ready for the next challenge."

Other names in the frame for the role include Sean Dyche, Claudio Ranieri and Mikel Arteta.
