Newcastle defender Steven Taylor hopes that club captain Fabricio Coloccini remains at St James' Park.

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has revealed that he is hopeful he can continue his partnership with Fabricio Coloccini next season.

Coloccini has been linked with a move to Argentinian side San Lorenzo, but Taylor is eager for the South American centre-back to remain at St James' Park.

The 27-year-old told the Shields Gazette: "Colo and I have had a great partnership over the past few seasons.

"We have a good understanding. We know each other's strengths and weaknesses. We seem to be able to mix it up. He's very composed, and he's not shy of a tackle as well.

"He's been great a guy in training. You can learn a lot from him. I've got a fantastic partnership with him, and hopefully that will continue."

Coloccini has made 184 appearances for Newcastle since he joined the club in 2008.
