Newcastle United are reportedly set to give Yoane Wissa the number nine shirt once he completes his move from Brentford.
Wissa has not featured for Brentford this season, having made it clear that he wants to join Eddie Howe's side before the transfer deadline.
The Brentford forward took to social media on Sunday to publicly express his desire to try a new challenge in the North East.
Earlier on deadline day, it was reported that Newcastle had finally reached an agreement with Brentford over a transfer for the 28-year-old.
The DR Congo international was then filmed arriving for his medical after agreeing a four-year contract with the Magpies.
Wissa to recieve number nine shirt
According to Sky Sports News, Wissa has now completed his medical ahead of his £50m transfer, which could increase to £5m depending on add-ons.
Wissa will become the second forward to join Newcastle this summer, following the recent arrival of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart.
Meanwhile, Newcastle's Alexander Isak is believed to be closing in on a move to Premier League champions Liverpool, while William Osula is the subject of interest from German club Eintracht Frankfurt.
There is a belief that Wissa will receive the privilege of donning Newcastle's iconic number nine shirt once he completes his transfer.
The number nine jersey has been vacant since Callum Wilson left the club as a free agent at the end of last season.
Wissa to follow in footsteps of Newcastle legends
Wissa will have to shoulder the responsibility of wearing an iconic number that was once worn by the club's record goalscorer, Alan Shearer.
Newcastle supporters will not be expecting Wissa to match Shearer's 206-goal tally, but they will be looking for him to hit the ground running in Eddie Howe's side.
Jackie Milburn and Malcom Macdonald are also among the legendary names that have worn the number nine shirt for Newcastle.
